THE COURSE

History

Piešťany Golf Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in Central Europe – its history began on 26 July 1914, just two days before the outbreak of the First World War. The British magazine Golf Illustrated declared the course "The most beautiful golf course on the Continent".

In the interwar period the club attracted the cream of European society: among its honorary members were Ján Masaryk and Baron Ringhoffer, and the celebrated painter Alfons Mucha was a regular visitor. The course hosted the first Slovak Golf Championships, the first international Czechoslovak Ladies' Championship, and the prestigious Herald Cup.

Under communist rule the course fell into disuse and became overgrown. The clubhouse was used as an exclusive retreat for party dignitaries and was closed to the public. In 1992 Golf Club Piešťany was re-established as a civic association, and golfers worked tirelessly to create a new course. Finally, in partnership with Slovenské liečebné kúpele Piešťany, the course was restored in 2004 in the beautiful surroundings of the spa park. The opening tournament on 21 July 2004 was attended by, among others, Milan Lasica and Miroslav Šatan, and Piešťany once again became a destination for Slovak society, culture, sport, and the wider golfing public.

From 2025 onwards the course has been managed on a long-term lease by Golf Club Piešťany – estd 1914, which is progressively restoring the quality of the greens and the Clubhouse facilities so that the course and amenities can be a source of pride for Piešťany golfers.

The Course

Piešťany boasts a beautiful 9-hole parkland course set on the picturesque Kúpeľný ostrov (Spa Island), with panoramic views of the River Váh and century-old trees. The course plays to a par of 2 × 34, with one par-5 hole and five par-4 holes. Practice facilities include a chipping and putting academy as well as a separate driving range.
